Given the imminent failure of Detroit Automotive Industry,?

Why? Except for an old Pick-up I inherited, I haven't owned an American car for 25yrs. What are your reasons or defenses?

owned an '87 4sprinter with 200k+ miles, very little problems.
own a '00 chevy blazer with 105k miles, a new mess each month.

Reliability, thats why the big three are in so much discord. However, they have vastly improved in the last couple years and I would buy one today.

If the govt. really wanted to save Detroit automotive why don't put they put limit on the car imports? ?

na because that would lead to keeping the quality issues the big three have already, and of course, prices would go to heaven. Is tournament what should lead automakers to improve their products, that is what japan understood 50 years ago, and they started the monotonous but certain way to high quality products. The big three need to understand that their problems are not coupled primarily to foreign brands, to import/export laws or financial issues (japan had in the 60's and 70's lots of these problems) but to changing the aplomb of their way to do automobile industry.
Now, the government has to bail these industries, not because "is not their fault to be where they are" (because IT IS their trespass) but because the social implications of not doing it (more thousands of workers out on the street), and this bail will expenditure you and me, as taxpayers.

It's not the imports that are the predicament. The big three U.S. automakers have the same problem as the financial institutions. Too much FAT.

So every hinterlands would follow the trend, and eventually there would be no international trade.

It is generally accepted that if all foreign competition was removed you wouldn't be able to afford a North American car.
As opposed to of rewarding the consumer they would just raise Domestic car prices and keep producing the same crap they surmise us to buy now. Take away competition and the Big Three would stagnate.

does anyone know of a business near detroit where you can rent a automotive spray booth?

I would like to Move to Detroit or Flint and I would like to know which city is better to relocate to?

I am interested in inspiring to Michigan to either Detroit or Flint. I have heard that both cities have strong economies, good convene transportation, are great places for singles, and have good cultural places to pop in. I am interested in working in the automotive industry since Michigan is the Automotive Capital of the World.

Between Detroit and Flint, which borough is better to live in and why?

Your meaning of humor is very lame.

I know you aren't even being serious, you're just trolling and trying to allure an audience who will respond with insulting answers about Detroit and Flint.

Well, you must be hearing and reading things from about 30 years ago because the brevity in Michigan in general, and Detroit in particular, is crap. The automotive industry has all but left Michigan and Detroit and Flint have been 2 of the hardest hit cities in that view. Automotive jobs are leaving this state by the thousands. It is highly unlikely that you would easily find a job in the automotive sector, what with all the lay-offs and closings here.
Michigan, at these days, I believe has the largest unemployment rate, the highest rate of home foreclosures, etc., in the country.
Neither city would be particularly ideal to relocate to at this time. Not trying to bash Michigan here; condign the facts.

I don't understand where you are getting your information about the strong economies of Flint and Detroit, but that is false. Because of the unions and wicked democrat party leadership, both cities have become crime ridden cess pools.

If you fall short of to work in the automotive industry, consider an auto contractor in a better part of the country.

I wouldn't underwrite either one, actually. Both have high crime rates and badly aging industrial diocese centers. Between the two, however, I would choose the Detroit area. Greater Metropolitan Detroit is a large area with a dissimilar population, a multitude of cultural attractions, plenty of shopping and dining, and a knell of well kept parks. You can find a neighborhood to fit pretty much any lifestyle you have in mind. Keep in mind, however, that the bring in of living is the highest in Michigan, and unemployment is at alarmingly high levels. The hoard transportation is not good at all in either place, by the way.

I continue in Michigan and have all my life. I love it here, but I have to warn you that what you've "heard" about Flint and Detroit doesn't seem very scrupulous. Don't get me wrong, there are many positive aspects of both cities, but strong economies, good chunk transportation, are great places for singles aren't it.

If you would like to move to MI, I would recommend Ann Arbor Or Enormous Rapids. Michigan's future will be in the solar energy and biochemical industries.

Sounds like someone is wasting our together and is attempting to be funny.

If you actually were going to pick in this scenario, Detroit has a lot more to offer than Flint.

What movies have been filmed in Detroit, Michigan or the surrounding areas?

Four years on, the vanguard of Detroit Auto bankruptcies emerges

Delphi Corp. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy four years ago today, shaking the foundations of the Detroit auto industry. Former parent General Motors Corp. changed; the United Auto Workers couldn't fight the change; Delphi shrank -- plants, people, business lines -- to less than half its size; and legions of Delphi hands, especially its salaried employees and retirees, began a long, painful journey that would culminate in them preparing to say goodbye to roughly two-thirds of their expected pensions.

This week, Delphi is out of bankruptcy. It's renamed as Delphi Holdings LLC, is privately held and is little more than a headquarters in its home country. Yes, Delphi is American inasmuch as a Swiss bank with major operations in London and New York can credibly be called a Swiss company.

What did we learn from the sordid, painful and contentious exercise? That departing Chairman Steve Miller, the serial bankruptcy guy, was right: Delphi's C11 was the warm-up act for the industry's mother of all bankruptcies (and its stepchild), the BKs of GM and Chrysler.

Second, that GM really did set Delphi up to fail when it spun the former parts unit off in 1999 with its own board, GM alums-turned-Delphi execs, and a business plan that essentially wouldn't allow Delphi to distance itself from GM's North American business or its ridiculously uncompetitive labor agreements.

Third, that UAW master agreements subjected to the detailed scrutiny of bankruptcy proceedings, open court and comparison to industry standards can be proven to be as uncompetitive as the unions critics had long insisted they were. How many access and UAW President Ron Gettelfinger personal name, he was the truth: GM and the UAW did not win a public car park and wages) to the executive (the default is denigrated Delphi executives " Valley of the pigs "in slopping or called, yes, Delphi, was complicit in perpetuating a model of non-labor costs pushed up on the edge of Delphi....

Sept. US Auto Sales Fall - Automotive News Story - WDIV Detroit

Meanwhile, General Motors and Chrysler was the only award in a major car manufacturer Hyundai LLC, during the month, quarter sales rose 27 percent reported the maximum posted speed decrease.

"It is more difficult than one month, is expected," Mark LaNeve, GM's vice president of U.S. sales, told reporters in a conference call. "

9 car and truck manufacturers to follow intoxicating summer slump in May. Manufacturers, about 70 million new car sales accelerated from clunkers, July and August was a big rise. The government program's big discounts lured in many customers who otherwise would have waited until later in the year to walk into dealerships.

Now automakers are starting to feel the effect. GM's sales plunged 45 percent to 155,679 vehicles in September, compared with a year earlier. Chrysler sold only 62,197 vehicles last month, down 42 percent.

Even higher incentives didn't shake buyers from their fall slumber. Automakers spent an average of $2,557 per vehicle in the U.S., up $83 from August, according to the auto Web site Edmunds.com. But that was due largely to big increases from domestic automakers.

"After five straight months of decline, incentives are on the rise again," Edmunds analyst Jessica Caldwell said in a statement. "Now that Cash for Clunkers is over, automakers have to give consumers an incentive to buy -- out of their own pockets, not the taxpayers'."

European and Japanese manufacturers cut their spending on incentives, which include offerings like financing deals and rebates that induce consumers to buy.

Japan's Toyota Motor Corp. said sales fell 13 percent while Nissan Motor Co. said its sales fell 7 percent. Honda's sales fell 23.3 percent to 77,229.

Ford Motor Co.114,241 is 5.1 percent fall, sales rise in the minimum decrease in the reduction of major manufacturers in the last two consecutive months.

Sales of Ford's 37.2 percent, down from 8 Mon....

New Motorcycle Reality TV Show With Detroit Bros at Cyril Huze Blog

The answer? Different, of course. Because a TV reality show is about personalities and attitude, and memorable designs can take very different roads depending of with who you work, where you work, the tools you use and…the editing. As a matter of fact, Beers love so much to produce “tough guys” series that the show was not shot in the 2 brothers shop, but on a rusty warehouse with a leaky roof tucked along a side street in Southwest Detroit. I guess to look more real because it is a REALITY show… I have no doubt hat James and Dave are working hard, have talent, are sincere at what they do and do it well, especially metal shaping that seems to be their forte. Will we see both cars and motorcycles? It seems so. In addition to boosting their own business I hope that this TV show will help re-promote the city of Detroit as the heart of the US automotive industry. The first season 13-episode “Motor City” TV show starts in January 2010.  Detroit Bros

Reality Show ….. there is a conflict of terms …. how can something “Scripted” be reality anything. I suppose Tom Beers put Hugh King in the corner for this one ????? Tom stick with The Deadliest Catch … and Dirty Jobs at least those shows are somewhat believable.

At any rate I wish the Detroit Guys the best of luck with the new series.

Over & Out,

Jeff

Hi Mike, I read your response and got to wondering if America was done with motorcycle shows. I looked up the Nielsen ratings for the only biker show on the tube right now. Sons of Anarchy is # 8 on cable T.V. rating sheet. The Discovery channel and the History channel are constantly running old documentaries about bikers. So to answer your question, apparently America hasn’t had their fill yet.

The economy is in the tanker and a new show that can offer a little bit of hope (and if these brotters are even little likable) could be an easy hit. Based on O.C.C.s success staged reality show or not the audience clearly doesn’t care. Americans are starving for a show that can offer a little hope and be amused at the same time. They just want be be entertained.
